Classwide Social Skills Program

Before and After School Social Skills Program

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This program contains a format for teaching and promoting social skills in a before and after school child care setting. This manual contains a description of how to introduce targeted social skills, and promote its use in the program. Suggested instructional tactics include role playing, modelling, and recognizing appropriate displays of social skills. The scripted lessons are to be used only as a guideline, not to be followed verbatim.

The program is introduced by on-site facilitators who work with setting supervisors in the implementation of the program. The facilitator should be present about once a week for the first four weeks, once every second week for the next four weeks and then, once a month for two more months. In addition, staff implementing this program should meet periodically (e.g., once a month) to discuss the success of the program and changes needed. We strongly encourage supervisors to use their own ideas in how to adapt the program to fit their setting. Areas in which program flexibility is allowed and critical components of the program not to be altered are described later in this section.

These are the cue cards for Expressing Anger social skill.
