1984 BMW318i

Introduced as a new model in May, 1984, the 318i succeeded the 320i, the best selling car in BMW's history. The 1984 318i although similar to the old model, was a fresh design with sloped hood, higher tail, and front spoiler, all designed to reduce air drag. The chassis was slightly shorter and wider then the 320i, and the interior slightly longer. BMW's high revving four cylinder engine breathed through electronic instead of mechanical fuel injection (Bosch S-Jetronic), had higher compression, and a higher final drive ratio to increase fuel economy.
